A discontinuation may be caused by poor market share or poor demand, the company is no longer able to manufacture or is unable to resource acceptable components, and possibly, that the product is deemed ineffective or potentially harmful. From time to time, the FDA may also receive discontinuation by additional manufacturers.
Listings of discontinuance may include cosmetics as some products meet the definitions of both cosmetics and drugs; however, note that the FDC & Cosmetic Act does not recognize a category of "cosmeceutical."
