Editorial: How Things Change! A Follow up.
We have all heard the saying "You are what you eat!" Well, it can also be said that "You are what you are influenced by!" Looking at the societal influences post-WWII and up through the 1960s, societal influences include patriotism, truth, faith, community, responsibility, contribution to society, etc., and, to a lesser extent, the media (television, movies, radio). However, even the media generally promoted strong family values, etc.
Starting in the 1970s, however, many of these began changing with less emphasis on patriotism, truth not as important, faith giving way to humanism, community giving way to self-indulgence, responsibility giving way to dependency, contributions to society giving way to selfishness, and the media (television, movies, radio, entertainment electronics, social media) changing so that lowered moral standards are presented as the "norm"!
It seems that the "majority" of people are still dedicated, hard-working citizens, but they seem to be in the minority because they are too busy working every day supporting their families to be out demonstrating. Many citizens, however, do not have jobs because we have sent the jobs overseas. Maybe it's time that government regulations be relaxed and union relationships be more realistic and these manufacturing jobs can be returned to the USA to put our own people back to work in the manufacturing industry.
Also, value needs to be placed on "truth," not only to individuals but especially when it applies to our politicians. It becomes so tiresome to hear of empty promises/lies that are spouted by both parties to get elected to office. After being elected, so many of them consider themselves as the elitist and the rest of us as the commoners (Please note the recent exemption of Congress etc. from the ACA.). As presented before in this column, if an elected politician is caught lying, they should be immediately removed from office!
As Walter Cronkite use to say, "And that's the way it is!"

Recall of Purity First Vitamins Widens
The recall of Purity First vitamins has expanded to include certain lots of the supplement-maker's vitamin C and mineral products. The FDA announced that most of the vitamins marketed by Purity First Health First Products Inc. also are subject to voluntary recall for containing anabolic steroids. The owner, who ran Purity First for years in Farmingdale, New York before recently moving the operation into her East Northport home, said she's cooperating with the FDA. To date, 29 illnesses have been confirmed, but federal health officials say that number could rise. The vitamins have been marketed nationwide via the Internet and in retail outlets.

Returning to the All-in-one Old-fashioned Drugstore?
Caf-corners that sell barista-prepared coffee, manicures, health clinics staffed by nurse practitioners, and pharmacists filling prescriptions; major drugstore chains are moving beyond simply dispensing prescriptions and are opening more in-store clinics, offering more healthcare products and personal convenience items and services. Drugstores are offering more services as a means of boosting revenue in the face of competition. Some state that the changes are necessary because time-pressed customers have come to expect that they will be able to do more than just fill a prescription at drugstores and people expect more personalization.
The gradual change began about five years ago when major drugstore chains focused on adding stores, not services. However, when states started allowing pharmacists to provide flu shots, it paved the way for drugstores to begin offering other immunizations and even beginning in-store clinics, and this trend is expanding.
