The landscape of pharmaceutical compounding is evolving. As we move through 2025, the foundation of this industry–its science, regulations, and collaboration–continues to shift and strengthen. Like the precision of an architect's blueprint, each advancement in pharmacy and pharmaceutical compounding builds upon a carefully designed structure, ensuring that patients receive high-quality, customized medications that meet their specific needs. At the International Journal of Pharmaceutical Compounding (IJPC), we remain committed to documenting and supporting this transformation. Our mission is to provide a platform where scientific inquiry, regulatory discussions, and clinical applications converge, offering insight into the very architecture of compounding today. Compounding's Changing Foundation The compounding industry is at a crossroads. Driven by drug shortages, expanded therapeutic applications, and heightened regulatory oversight, pharmacies are being challenged to adapt at an unprecedented pace. The adoption of USP 795, 797, and 800 standards across more states signifies a universal push toward quality and compliance. The rise of biologics, GLP-1 therapies, and novel compounding techniques further underscore the importance of innovation in our field. As these regulatory and clinical advancements take shape, pharmacies–both 503A and 503B–must navigate a complex environment that spans retail, hospital, home infusion, radiopharmaceutical, investigational, and veterinary care. This dynamic shift requires collaboration across disciplines, ensuring that our industry not only meets but exceeds the evolving demands of healthcare.
Expanding the IJPC Platform With this issue, we continue to modernize IJPC's presentation and accessibility. We're excited to keep the electronic flip magazine format, making the Journal easier to navigate and engage with. This shift reflects our dedication to enhancing the reader experience while preserving the integrity of our research and peer-reviewed studies. Our latest issue builds on the theme of Continuation and Collaboration introduced in the last edition. Here, we expand the discussion–delving into the partnerships, innovations, and regulatory updates shaping compounding today. Among the featured articles, we highlight insights on a legal perspective on Marketing in Compounding, providing guidelines for compliant ads and assessing the risk of enforcement actions, and new USP chapters for Sterility and Endotoxins for elevating pharmacy practice. Looking Ahead Each issue of IJPC is marked by a visual tribute to our profession – a mortar and pestle. This edition's black-and-white architectural drawing is more than a symbol; it represents the structural integrity and precision required in compounding. Just as architects design with intention, we, as a profession, must continue refining our foundation to support the future of patient care. We invite you to explore this issue and join the conversation. A preview copy is freely available at IJPC.com. Whether you are a pharmacist, researcher, prescriber, technician, or industry leader, your contributions drive the compounding field forward. Submissions@IJPC.com is open for those ready to share their expertise and shape the next phase of this industry. Together, let's build something lasting.
Respectfully,
Thomas C. Kupiec, Ph.D.
