Supporting pharmacy compounding for over twenty years!

In 2003, Dr. Allen and IJPC were looking for a way to help compounding pharmacists get answers to their daily questions, share their knowledge, and keep in touch with their colleagues. Some extra visibility for IJPC, the Journal, and CompoundingToday.com would be welcome as well. The resulting system, the IJPC Compounders' Network List (CNL), is still going over twenty years later!

What is a the CNL?
The CNL is an email list server - a holdover from the time before Tik-Tok and Whatsapp, before Myspace and Facebook, before even web-based online discussion forums. It uses just plain old email - probably the oldest network application of the computer age. Simple? Yes! Old-fashioned? Probably! Still useful? Definitely! Today, there are over 1,800 users subscribed to the CNL!

How does it work?
A user sends an email to the CNL posting address with a question or comment, the email is then forwarded to every user on the list. Replies are likewise forwarded so that everyone on the list benefits from the discussion. Members can access an online site with archives of all twenty year's postings and manage their account settings.

What is discussed on the CNL?
Any topic with relevance to compounding pharmacy is welcome. Formulation and methods, business problems and practices, education needs and opportunities, regulation and compliance, current happenings in the industry. Recent threads on the list have included:

• Semaglutide SL compounding
• Pros and cons of suppository molds
• 503b consultants
• Sourcing for multiple APIs
• Credit card processers and fees

Who is using it and who can join?
Anybody with an interest in the field can join. While many users are retail compounding pharmacists, there are also academic instructors, researchers, suppliers, marketers, students, regulators, and retirees. Most users are U.S. based, but there are a number from Europe, Australia, Africa, and India.

How is the CNL managed?
This is NOT an anonymous chat group! The CNL is a fully moderated list - all posts are reviewed by IJPC staff prior to forwarding and new members are required to provide full contact information when joining. This ensures that discussions are kept professional, relevant, and valuable to the subscribers.

Members are required to follow the CNL Code of Conduct and must include their contact information in each posting.

How to join the CNL
The CNL is free to join to all with an interest in pharmacy compounding! You are NOT required to subscribe to the Journal or to CompoundingToday.com.
