Seek and Ye Shall Find
Today, IJPC.com contains over 4,500 individual articles from 162 issues from 27 years of the International Journal of Pharmaceutical Compounding. That can be a lot to go through when trying to find “the one about cleaning glassware,� or “the one with tips on compounding ophthalmic ointments.� IJPC.com includes a suite of search features to help with this. Some of them are more obvious than others, but all have their uses.
Keyword Search
Just like the Internet big boys, IJPC.com has a keyword search. It's up there on the left side of the page banner. Type words into it, hit enter, and search results should soon appear. There are a few subtleties:
- Search terms are additive. Searching with more than one word will return items with any one of them, as well as items with more than one of the search terms. The more terms entered, the more results to look through.
- The search system examines the article title, abstract text, author name(s), and related keyword pulled from the article text or otherwise related to the article.
- Results are sorted by relevance to the search terms. Results matching two words will show above results that match just one word. Results with the words in the same order or close to each other will be above results with the matched words spread out.
- The search WILL try to match plurals and some word roots.
- You don't have to enter a complete sentence. Filler words and conjunctions like 'and', 'or', 'we', 'I' are generally ignored. You can just type in the key words.
- The search will do its best to correct spelling errors to match words in the system. So 'codiene' will the transformed to 'codeine.' It will note these corrections at the top of the results page by showing the struck-through original and the correction.
Author Search
There are several ways to find items by your favorite author:
- Enter the author's name in the keyword search box.
- Use the author list page. You will find a link to it under Content...Articles from the top menu.
- You can click the author's name in any search result item.
Topic Search
Every article from IJPC is tagged with its related topic or topics. The topic list page shows them all, and lets you click to see everything from each one. You will find a link to it under Content...Articles from the top menu.
Issue or Year Listing
- If you remember the issue, you can see everything in it using the issue listing page access from under Content...Issue from the top menu.
- To see a complete year, use the year's library archive link near the bottom of the archive page accessed under Content...Archives from the top menu.
Archive Listing
Many of IJPC's articles appear in one or more topical archive collections. If your quarry is in one of these, you can list the contents using the links for each on the archive page accessed under Content...Archives from the top menu.
