A Review of the Revised United States Pharmacopeia <797>

NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

This is an introduction to the work of a group of highly knowledgeable pharmacists led by Rad Dillon to a review of the newly released USP <797>; their review, in Excel format is available as a free for download at: https://CompoundingToday.com/Compliance/SCCG USP 797 changes.xlsx (Excel Spreadsheet .xlsx, 32 KB)

The Sterile Compounding Consensus Group (SCCG), first convened shortly after the release of the most recent draft of USP <797>, created a Sterile Compounding Consensus Statement (SCCS) reviewing and commenting upon the major changes between this draft and the "current," that is "official," version of the chapter.

With the release of the "final" version of USP <797>, with an effective date of November 1, 2023, the group again convened, and created a similar document comparing the most recent draft with the "final" version.

This updated version of the SCCS can be downloaded at: https://CompoundingToday.com/Compliance/SCCG USP 797 changes.xlsx

The overall assessment is that the number of significant changes from the most recent draft is relatively small but almost universally add clarity or "common sense" interpretations to prior text.

A full comparison of the final version to the "current" version of USP <797> was not attempted at this time due to the complexity of the task and the desire to get a synopsis of revision-to-final changes out to the concerned public.

As the organizer of this initiative, I wish to list the prime contributors to this revised version:

Veterans Day 2022: November 11

Veterans Day originated as "Armistice Day" on November 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 making it an annual observance, and it became a national holiday in 1938. Sixteen years later, then-President, Dwight D. Eisenhower, signed legislation changing the name to Veterans Day to honor all those who served their country during war or peacetime. On this day, the nation honors military veterans -- living and dead -- with parades and other observances across the country and a ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

The following facts are possible thanks to the invaluable responses to U.S. Census Bureau surveys. We appreciate the public's cooperation in helping us measure America's people, places, and economy.

Veteran Population

16.5 million
The number of military veterans in the United States in 2021.

1.7 million
The number of female veterans in the United States in 2021.

1.9%
The percentage of veterans in 2021 who were Asian American. Additionally, 73.0% of veterans were non-Hispanic White; 8.2% Hispanic or Latino (of any race); 12.3% African American; 0.7% American Indian or Alaska Native; 0.2% Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander; and 2.7% were Some Other Race. (The numbers include only those reporting a single race.)

24.4%
The percentage of veterans ages 75 and older in 2021. At the other end of the age spectrum, 8.2% of veterans were younger than age 35.

Thank You Veterans

Did You Know ...

...that Calvin Coolidge said the following?

"The nation which forgets its defenders will be itself forgotten."
