Vending Machines for Prescription Drugs
Patients would get expanded access to prescription drugs under a bill in the Florida Legislature that allows pharmacies to operate medication-dispensing kiosks. The automated pharmacy systems would be vending machines for prescription drugs. The machines could be placed in areas where access to medications is limited, and the kiosks could operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, according to HB 59 sponsor, Rep. Matt Willhite, a Palm Beach Democrat. Pharmacists should welcome the automation and expanded access, said Kevin Sneed, dean of the Taneja College of Pharmacy at the University of South Florida. Sneed warned the bill should contain a requirement that patients who use the kiosks first speak with a pharmacist.

Major Drug Chains Sue Doctors
Major drug chains have sued doctors across northeast Ohio, claiming that physicians are the real culprits in the nation's deadly drug epidemic. CVS, Walgreen Co., Walmart, Rite Aid, and other major pharmacy chains said opioid prescribers bear responsibility for the prescription narcotic crisis, but, unlike the drugstores, have not been sued by Cuyahoga and Summit counties. In legal papers filed Monday, they contended that doctors and other prescribers should have to pay some of the penalty if the drugstore chains are found liable at trial. One "fly in the ointment" is that federal regulations assign pharmacists a "corresponding responsibility" to ensure that prescriptions are legitimate and help prevent diversion of painkillers to illicit users and dealers.

Did You Know ...

...that Walt Disney said the following?

"Life is composed of lights and shadows, and we would be untruthful, insincere and saccharine if we tried to pretend there were no shadows."

Tip of the Week

The above quote has also been stated using a comparison of "hills and valleys," but the meaning is similar. We will have good times and bad times; we enjoy the former but dread the latter. However, often it is in the "shadows" or "valleys" that we are challenged and our true character is revealed. Have you ever considered that without light there would be no shadows and without mountains there would be no valleys? We are tested almost every day.
