Social Media Risks for Pharmacists (Excerpts)

DO's
- Put conservative security settings in place
- Be aware of one's employer's social media policies
- Use caution when connecting with patients or former patients via social media
- Use social media to post positive comments about the workplace and its staff
- Share educational information that may benefit others, such as safety notices and medical news
DON'Ts
- Post photos or videos of patients, identify patients by name, or include any other information that could be used to identify a patient
- Refer to patients in a disparaging manner, even if patients are not identified
- Post inappropriate photos or negative comments about colleagues or employers
- Post photos or comments about alcohol or drug use, or sexually explicit, racially derogatory, or threatening comments
- Offer any advice that could be potentially be construed as medical advice.
