Pharmaceutical Compounding Questions and Answers

Question: When will USP Chapters <795> and <797> be completed and ready for downloading?

Answer:
USP Chapters <795>, <797>, <800>, and a new chapter for radiopharmaceuticals (<825>) are available for downloading now at the following websites:

https://www.usp.org/compounding/general-chapter-797

https://www.usp.org/compounding/general-chapter-795

https://www.usp.org/chemical-medicines/general-chapter-825

https://www.usp.org/compounding/general-chapter-hazardous-drugs-handling-healthcare

For those state boards of pharmacy that are adopting any of these chapters, it is critical that the affected pharmacists (and involved entities) clearly read, understand, and implement these standards.

For those state boards of pharmacy that are not adopting any or all of these chapters and are preparing their own or using their own modifications of the chapters, it is important that all pharmacists within the individual states clearly read, understand, and implement those state laws and regulations affecting them.

Editor's Note 1: Since USP <797> has recently been revised, it will be important to read the 200 pages of Commentary from the USP on the disposition of the comments received on <797>, which can be viewed at:

https://www.uspnf.com/sites/default/files/usp_pdf/EN/USPNF/usp-nf-commentary/commentary-gc-797-20190531.pdf

Editor's Note 2: Also, an informal commentary has been prepared on the USP <797> final version and is available for a FREE download for all on the Homepage at:

Did You Know ...

...that Winston Churchill said the following?

"If Britain must choose between Europe and the open sea, she must always choose the open sea".

Tip of the Week

In making a decision, or choosing, I am reminded of four steps that were taught years ago:

Decision making:

Step 1:  What is the Question?
Step 2:  What are the Alternatives?
Step 3:  What are the Consequences of the Alternatives?
     Step 4:  Make the Decision!

Finally, "Follow-up."

It seems that many today jump from Step 1 to Step 4, bypassing the two most critical steps (2 and 3) in making a decision! There are far too many "unintended consequences" from uninformed and uneducated individuals affecting us all today!
