| New Look for IJPC |
|
Do you enjoy remodeling, upgrading, refreshing your home or office? Well, the International Journal of Pharmaceutical Compounding (IJPC) is now changing the cover design of our journal, beginning with the January/February 2018 issue.
IJPC presents a fresh, new look with this issue (January/February 2018). The change includes the new IJPC logo and a new masthead. The centerpiece of all the covers will remain the same—the mortar and pestle. The content will continue to evolve with the changing landscape of pharmaceutical compounding. As the only pharmacy journal dedicated solely to compounding, we continue to support quality pharmaceutical compounding, worldwide. A comparison of the old and the new is shown below:

New York Looks at Drug Take-back Programs
New York state senators have filed the "Drug Take Back Act," which instead of being aimed directly at drugmakers, would require chain and mail-order pharmacies to establish federally approved disposal systems for consumers. This might include on-site disposal or prepaid mail-back envelopes. One of the bill's sponsors said that since some drug addictions start with leftover meds, "cutting off that supply is essential."

EMA Bans Antibiotic APIs Produced by the Drugmaker in Mongolia
European authorities have blocked the amoxicillin trihydrate active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) which is produced by a company in China, whose manufacturing quality oversight has been found to be weak. This involves Inner Mongolia Changsheng Pharmaceutical and follows an October inspection of its plant in Tuoketuo, Hohhot, Inner Mongolia in China, by Belgium inspectors. Inspectors listed one critical and eight major deficiencies. The critical deficiency was tied to the quality-assurance system, which inspectors reported was incapable of establishing acceptable standards across the whole spectrum of processes. They specifically noted oversight of deviations, quality control, validation, complaint management, documentation, among others. Both U.S. and European authorities have stepped up oversight of Chinese companies as more are found shipping ingredients to the West.
