FDA Must Reach Out to Stakeholders before Enforcing Pharmacy Law
The Senate Appropriations Committee has told the FDA to reach out to stakeholders such as physicians, patients, and pharmacists before releasing new guidances for compounding pharmacies. Under the 2013 Compounding Quality Act, the FDA has greater oversight and funding, and it requires the agency to meet with stakeholders before issuing new guidances. According to the Committee's ranking member, Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), physicians, patients, and pharmacists have told him the agency has not consulted with them to address their concerns before developing a new guidance. At the Senator's request, the committee has asked the FDA to reach out before moving forward on the law.

Sanjing Pharma Says Chairman Jumps to Death During Probe
Liu Zhanbin, the chairman of Sanjing Pharmaceutical Co., jumped to his death while being investigated for corruption amid a nationwide crackdown on graft by officials and company executives. He leaped out of a third-floor hospital restroom on May 18 in Heihe while receiving a health check-up. He was being investigated for suspected graft. The Chinese President's anti-corruption campaign is growing into one of the broadest in the nation's modern history as leaders pledge to target "tigers and flies," or officials at both ends of the power spectrum. The crackdown has resulted in the arrests of doctors, hospital administrators, and pharmaceutical executives.

FDA Raises Concern over India-Owned Morton Grove Pharmaceuticals
The FDA has expressed concerns over production processes at the U.S. unit of Wockhardt, possibly adding to the regulatory troubles facing the Indian generic drugmaker. The U.S. is Wockhardt's biggest market, and the FDA has already banned the import of generic drugs from its two plants in India, citing quality lapses in the manufacturing process.

ACA to Fine Companies That Give Workers Money to Buy Their Own Health Insurance Plans
The IRS has announced plans to fine companies $36,500 per employee per year if the companies give their workers money to purchase health insurance plans rather than directly provide health insurance coverage for the workers. If you employ more than 50 employees, make sure not to give your workers any money to help them buy private insurance that might be cheaper than Obamacare plans; you'll be fined if you do.
