Fertility, Cycles & Nutritions: How Your Diet Affects Your Menstrual Cycles & Fertility (3rd ed.)

Marilyn M. Shannon
The Couple to Couple League

This book is an excellent reference for nutritional, dietary and supplement recommendations.

This 204-page book is an excellent resource for women in their reproductive years and for the pharmacists and healthcare providers who assist in their therapy. The book includes self-help strategies for premenstrual syndrome (PMS), infertility, dysmenorrhea, premenopause, repeated miscarriages, cycle irregularities, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, pregnancy, and yeast, and even covers male infertility. Although it is written for all women, it targets women who use Natural Family Planning. Its focus is on nutrition and vitamin supplementation that can be used alone or in conjunction with other hormonal therapies. Of particular interest is the information on PMS and reference to the research done by Guy E. Abraham, MD, on the four types of PMS and the importance of the use of supplements in women who suffer with PMS. A summary of Abraham’s research with regard to the use of high-dose vitamin B6, magnesium, calcium, zinc and vitamin E is included, as well as information on the proper use of these supplements in helping correct a luteal-phase deficiency. Low-thyroid function and the way it relates to menstrual cycle irregularities as well as infertility are reviewed. Specific diets for various reproductive disorders such as polycystic ovarian syndrome and PMS are recommended.
