Preventing and Reversing Osteoporosis
Alan R. Gaby, MD
Prima Publishing
This book is an excellent resource for patients and healthcare providers who are interested in preventing osteoporosis.
This older reference is not outdated and contains essential information on how to prevent osteoporosis. The most natural prophylactic options are emphasized. Jonathan V. Wright, MD, a pioneer in natural hormone replacement therapy and women’s health issues, wrote the foreword. This easy-to-read reference covers everything from the pathophysiologic mechanism of osteoporosis to drug and nondrug treatment and prevention strategies. Dr. Gaby provides step-by-step instructions for choosing a calcium supplement, including descriptions of the different types of calcium and other vitamins and minerals that are essential for the proper absorption and utilization of calcium. Hormone replacement therapy is also essential in the prevention of osteoporosis. Dr. Gaby explains the importance of estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and dehydroepiandrosterone, as well as the differences in the natural and synthetic forms of those hormones. In conclusion, he discusses how diet, exercise, and various disease states and conditions affect bone health. This book is an excellent resource for every pharmacy
