Taking Charge of Your Fertility

Toni Weschler, MPH
Harper Collins

This book is extremely informative. It is a “must-read” for all healthcare providers who treat women with menstrual cycle abnormalities or infertility and those who provide their patients with methods of natural birth control.

This book presents information about the Fertility Awareness Method (FAM). FAM promotes an understanding of human reproduction and consists of using scientifically proven signs of fertility, including waking temperature, cervical fluid, and cervical position. FAM is not the “rhythm method.” It is an empowering method of natural birth control or pregnancy achievement that is an excellent tool for women and for healthcare providers to use in assessing gynecologic problems. Numerous illustrations, diagrams, and charts are useful to women who monitor their cycle and fertility pattern. The text contains thorough and explicit descriptions, as well as color pictures that are of use to those who want to recognize and record the signs of fertility. Information about maximizing the possibility of pregnancy is included, as are strategies for avoiding pregnancy. Additional topics include premenstrual syndrome, breast-feeding, stress, perimenopause, menopause, medications that affect fertility, and choosing the sex of the baby. This book is easy to read and is a “must” for women seeking to take charge of their fertility and their menstrual cycle.
