The Other Diabetes: Living and Eating Well with Type 2 Diabetes

Elizabeth Hiser
William Morrow and Company, Inc.

Written by a registered dietician, this book is an excellent resource for the type 2 diabetic on diet, nutrition and exercise for healthy living. It is well written, easy to read and scientifically based. Chapters include information on prevention of heart disease, losing weight and keeping it off, good vs. bad fat, fiber, carbohydrates, supplements and exercise. The bulk of the book, however, focuses on diet. Sample menus and meal plans are included to provide a basis for proper diet planning. It even includes recipes, including salads; vegetable dishes; meat-free, vegetarian, poultry and seafood entrees; small meals and snacks. Her easy-to-follow diet recommendations are based on the Mediterranean diet. This book can help teach diabetics how to optimize glucose control, while at the same time helping them lose weight.
