Maximising Manhood: Beating the Male Menopause
Malcolm Carruthers, MD, FRC Path, MRCGP
Hammersmith
Malcolm Carruthers is a consultant andrologist and specialist in men’s health, from his clinic in London’s Harley Street. He has been researching testosterone’s role in keeping men healthy, happy and sexually active for the past 20 years and he has experience in treating over 1,000 men. In his book, he explains over 50 years of scientific evidence in order to prove that “male menopause” or “andropause” does indeed exist. This book is packed full of history, commentary and studies relating to the “male menopause mystery.” It contains chapters on testosterone, the midlife crisis, vasectomies, testosterone replacement therapy, sexual satisfaction, and the secrets of vitality and virility. It contains two helpful checklists, an andropause checklist and midlife crisis checklist, that can be incorporated into a men’s health practice. Both can be useful in helping the pharmacist and patient assess the current risk for andropause and/or a midlife crisis. This book is very well referenced and can be used as a tool to find pertinent literature and direct further study. It is an excellent reference for pharmacists but should only be recommended to patients who want to know every detail about male menopause. In other words, it’s not for the casual reader.
